The Ansonia on Lydiard is in the centre of the heritage and arts precinct with many attractions of historical significance including heritage architecture.

 Heritage & Arts Precinct

Just a five minute walk along historic Lydiard Street and you arrive at The Art Gallery of Ballarat.  Established in 1884, it’s the oldest and largest regional art gallery in Australia.

Buildings of architectural significance include Craig's Royal Hotel, the Town Hall, the Mining Exchange and the Ballarat Mechanics' Institute.

Just a five-minute drive

Sovereign Hill re-creates Ballarat’s first ten years after the discovery of gold in 1851 when thousands rushed to the goldfields in search of fortune. Step back in time, enjoy the hustle and bustle of Main Street and the excitement of discovering gold, the real thing!

Ballarat Wildlife Park gives you the chance to get up close and personal to some of Australia's most famous native animals. Hand feed the kangaroos and interact with koalas, wombats, and a variety of reptiles including a giant tortoise.

Botanical Gardens Located on the western shore of Lake Wendouree, approximately four kilometres from Ballarat’s CBD, the Gardens are a popular and invaluable heritage and recreational location for residents and visitors.

The Gardens cover 40 hectares and are divided into four distinct zones. The central part of the Gardens features the traditional, 'gardenesque' style, open parkland on either side are known as the North and South Gardens and the area alongside Lake Wendouree as the Lake foreshore precinct.
